Frequently Asked Questions
What age should my child be to join the Narwhals Team?
The Narwhals Team accepts swimmers from 4–18 years old. Most families find the ideal age to start competitive swim training falls between 6–12 years old. But plenty of 4–6 year olds who are ready for a challenge can certainly begin competing.
Does my child have to compete in swim meets?
No! Competition is entirely optional. Our focus is on training, technique, and skill development, helping each swimmer progress at their own pace and comfort level.
For families who’d like to explore upcoming events or see what meets look like, visit our Swim Meet Schedule.
What should my swimmer bring to practice?
Proper swimsuit (one-piece for girls, jammers for boys), well-fitting goggles, swim cap, water bottle, and towel. A mesh bag helps keep everything organized.
Can my child swim for WeAquatics if they're on another team?
Yes! We welcome swimmers looking for additional training opportunities.
How does the Narwhals Swim Team differ from the Learn-to-Swim program?
The Narwhals Swim Team focuses on competitive swimming skills and endurance, while Learn-to-Swim teaches basic water safety and stroke fundamentals.
Are there coaches in the water during practice?
Yes. Coaches rotate between deck-side instruction and in-water support for hands-on technique correction.
What do I need to do to compete?
Register with USA Swimming (included in membership) and meet the skill requirements for your chosen events.
