one-on-one infant swim lessons

Children learn to roll onto their backs to float and progress to swim-float-swim, followed by ISR Maintenance lessons to reinforce their skills.

What to Expect from Infant Swimming Lessons

Initial ISR lessons last 10 minutes and take place five days a week, with one instructor working directly with your child. Short, focused sessions allow children to practice regularly without making each lesson lengthy.

The initial course typically takes about one to two months, although each child progresses at their own pace. Consistent attendance supports that progress, while breaks in the course may extend the timeline.

Who Are Infant Swim Lessons For?

WeAquatics offers ISR lessons for infants and young children ages 6 months to 4 years. One-on-one instruction allows lessons to focus on each child’s current abilities and pace of learning.

If you have questions about your child’s readiness, talk with our team before enrolling. Discuss any health or developmental concerns with your pediatrician as well.

For children with diverse learning needs, WeAquatics has Swim Angelfish® certified instructors available upon request. Let us know about your child’s needs during enrollment so we can discuss appropriate support.

What Will Your Child Learn in ISR Lessons?

Infant Swimming Resource™ lessons focus on water survival skills rather than starting with traditional stroke instruction. Children work on floating and swimming skills appropriate to their stage of development.

  • Roll-back-to-float: Younger students practice rolling from a face-down position onto their backs and floating independently.

  • Swim-float-swim: Children working on this sequence practice swimming face-down, rolling onto their backs to rest and breathe, and returning to swimming.

  • Repeated practice: One-on-one attention gives each child focused opportunities to work on the movements they are learning.

Swimming lessons are one part of a broader approach to water safety, not a replacement for supervision. Children still need close, constant adult supervision in and around water, even after completing lessons, as emphasized in the CDC’s water safety guidance.

The initial course typically takes about one to two months of consistent lessons. Every child progresses at their own pace, and some children may need additional time.

Yes, WeAquatics has Swim Angelfish® certified instructors available upon request. Tell us about your child’s needs during enrollment so we can discuss appropriate instruction and instructor availability.

Your child continues with ISR maintenance lessons, the required next stage in our ISR pathway before graduating to Learn-to-Swim. Weekly, 10-minute sessions reinforce existing skills and introduce additional swimming movements as your child develops.

Maintenance is a stage of continued skill development, not an automatic move to LTS after a set number of lessons. Speak with our team about your child’s progress, the skills they are working on, and their next steps toward Learn-to-Swim.

No, children need close, constant adult supervision in and around water, even after swimming lessons. Continue using layers of protection, including preventing unsupervised access to water, as outlined in the CDC’s drowning prevention guidance.
